Activities and prizes await those traveling to other countries through reading.
Tiffin-Seneca Public Library's summer reading program is to start Monday and continue through July 30.
Debby Roszman, the library's community relations coordinator, said the children's reading program is for youth ages 3 to entering fifth grade, and the theme is "One World, Many Stories."
"(A) ventriloquist is kicking it off Monday, with Mark Wade," Roszman said.
Other children's activities include learning about other countries through folktales and crafts, watching "The Rescuers Down Under" movie, learning how to draw cartoons and about recycling in other countries, watching West African drumming and dancing, playing games and reading with Magic, Tiffin City Schools' therapy dog.
"Many, many, many organizations have been donating, and we appreciate their generosity a lot," Roszman said.
Library officials have changed how children participate in the program this year. In the past, children have gotten several cards to keep track of their reading, but are to get one reading record this year for the entire program.
"They take a trip around the reading record," Roszman said.
Linda Bailey, head of the children's department, said the purpose of the reading program is to get children excited about reading.
The teenage program's theme is "You are Here," and the program is for students entering grades six through 12.
Roszman said events are scheduled for almost every Tuesday throughout the eight-week program. Teenagers report how many pages they have read while participating in the program.
They are to make African masks, homemade ice cream, Rangoli paper designs, Guatemalan worry dolls and candy wrapper bracelets and play board games.
"They play board games from other countries, and then they can take them home," Roszman said.
"Passport to Listening" is the theme for the listening program, and people who sign up are to receive a free pair of ear buds.
"You can always use those," Roszman said.
"Novel Destinations" is the theme for the adult reading program. Library officials have changed the way people can win prizes this year.
Roszman said every time someone finishes a book, he or she receives a ticket. Readers can choose to enter to win weekly prizes, such as key chains, T-shirts or reusable bags, or the grand prizes, such as gift cards.
