Merritt's House of Flowers to be featured on the Food Network
“They were friendly and outgoing and asked some questions saying they were from out of town but that they’d lived here 15 to 20 years ago,” said Cooper. “But then the next day, we got a phone call asking if we’d participate in an episode of Food Network’s new show ‘Tough Cookies.’”
The show focuses on Ocean City-based Crazy Susan’s Cookie Company run by sisters Susan Adair and Linda Blank. Cooper realized his mysterious visitors were scouts. The episode featuring Merritt’s will air Aug. 28 at 6 and 6:30 p.m.
“They told us they scouted a number of Gloucester County locations because of the father of the bride being featured on this particular episode lives in Glassboro,” said Cooper. “We had one day of notice and then they came in and filmed on a Saturday afternoon.”
Merritt’s lead floral designer Stacey Henry said Food Network came in with a big production crew, filming a consultation and the showroom and speaking to employee Laura Gallagher.
“They brought the father in here and his daughter and the grandmother,” said Henry. “It was weird to have the cameras in there taking shots of us working. We also noticed a few people with their faces pressed up against a window while they were filming.”
The scene was out of the ordinary for a town that usually sees quiet Saturday afternoons.
“What struck us as amazing was that a New York production company came here to Pitman,” said Henry. “And people were fascinated as they walked by. It was also amazing for us to see how they do everything — they edited the film right there on their laptops.”
All of the Merritt’s employees are excited to see how the episode turns out. Cooper said he’s still not sure exactly what role the shop will play in the episode, but was “thrilled that out of all the shops they looked at, they liked us best.
