Fictional Life: Book Review: "Shadows on the Hudson" by Isaac ...

I was fascinated by most of my adult life Judaism, in part because the study of the Old Testament, and partly because I read the novel by Singer Soshi, when I was in my twenties. I was mesmerized. I picked up Shadows on the Hudson in a used book store a few months, but put it aside because I was busy with other things. When I finally get around to reading it, I found it slow. I could not read more than a few chapters at a time. The main thing I brought away from the story was the insight that it is that the Jews cannot be painted with a broad brush without violating the amazing variety of their stories. The person's national origin and personality type are as important as their religion in determining how they navigate their world and how they cope with something as overwhelming a surviving the Holocaust. The name Meredith Rae Morgan is a pseudonym. The woman behind the name is a: *Daughter of a blue collar family (first generation off the farm on both sides), born and raised in the Midwest, but with roots in the Deep South *Student and Lifelong Learner with a B. S. (I love that!) in French Literature (Honors thesis on Baudelaire's "Les Fleurs du Mal" – It was the Seventies. What can I say?
