Bonnie & Clyde: musical comes to Broadway in the fall

Written by the creative team of Frank Wildhorn (Score), Don Black (Lrics) and Ivan Menchell (Books), the musical's score combines rockabilly, blues and gospel music.

Directed by Jeff Calhoun, the musical will star Laura Osnes (Anything Goes, South Pacific, Grease) as 'Bonnie Parker' and Jeremy Jordan (West Side Story) as 'Clyde Barrow.

Stuck in a dead-end job in Texas in the 1930s, young Bonnie Parker falls in love with Clyde Barrow, a charismatic criminal on the run from the law. Their love affair soon spirals out of control, as Bonnie & Clyde commit a series of bank robberies while staying one step ahead of the authorities. But as their notoriety — and body count — rises, the ill-fated lovers find themselves racing to the top of the Public Enemies list…with a bullet.

Director Jeff Calhoun siad, “What attracted me to this Bonnie & Clyde is that the authors have developed a love story that is both compelling and sexy, distinct from the film and yet faithful to these personalities who remain such a part of the American landscape. I can't wait for audiences to see Laura Osnes and Jeremy Jordan in these iconic roles. They are both extraordinary talents."

Laura Osnes originated the role of 'Bonnie Parker' when Bonnie & Clyde when the musical premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego where it polayed from 10 Nov - 20 Dec 2009, where she earned a San Diego Theater Critics Circle Award for her performance and the show won Best Musical. In that production she starred alongside Stark Sands as 'Clyde.'

Osnes then reprised that role opposite Jeremy Jordan in the fall of 2010 when the show performed at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida from 19 Nov - 19 Dec 2010.

the musical is being produced on Broadway by Kathleen Raitt, Barry Satchwell Smith, Jerry Frankel, Jeffrey Richards and Michael Jenkins.

Bios:

Laura Osnes is currently starring as 'Hope Harcourt' in 'Anything Goes.' She recently starred as 'Nellie Forbush' in Lincoln Center’s Broadway revival of 'South Pacific.' She made her Broadway debut as 'Sandy' in 'Grease,' having won NBC’s reality competition “Grease: You’re the One That I Want.”

The real Lloyd Doggett - Texas League of the South

When the democrats are not in power, they get funny. Lloyd Doggett sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner regarding the use of paper cups used in the Congressional cafeteria. In the letter Doggett accussed Congressional Republicans of “intentionally inflicting a cancerous disease upon House Democrats when the cafeteria began using paper cups to sell coffee. Funny, I do not remember him complaining about the compostable green flatware used under Pelosi’s reign that was known for not cutting anything.

It is ironic how now he complains about the new redistricting map “This map violates the Voting Rights Act and represents little more than another Republican slap at Hispanics. Its crooked lines harm families throughout the San Antonio to Austin corridor,” . Funny, he said little about how he put a poison bill in the money for schools so that it would have been illegal for Perry to accept it the way it was originally written. He did not care about the law then, so why does Doggett care about the law now?

His statement “Their (the Republicans) goal, is to deny a voice for our unique Austin community — where neighbors of all ethnic backgrounds can come together to serve in elective office. Their plan will mean Congress members who are less accessible, less accountable, and more beholden to moneyed, special interests, as election costs soar in these bizarre districts.” is laughable. If you called his office and had an opinion outside of his own, you are ignored. If you were from Gonzales, or Hays County, or Seguin or had traditional values you were ignored. He did not listen to those outside of Austin before and his statement about the voice of the unique Austin community is where he heart is. All he cared about was Austin, not the other people that he was sent to represent. When Austin’s voice wants to cram its smart meters, its national energy grid, on the rest of Texas-we are not interested. We do not want the increased carbon taxes. We do not want our light bulbs removed. We do not want increased tobacco taxes. We do not want illegal strings on money. We do not want more Patriot Acts, we do not want Obamacare, and its forced participation. We do not want Lloyd Doggett. He may be good for parts of Austin, but he is not good for the rest of Texas.

It is also ironic how now he claims to care about harming families with the new district. Where was all this care when he voted to raise taxes on them? When he voted to raise carbon taxes? When he voted to make incandescent light bulbs illegal? When he voted to raise the tobacco taxes? When he spent more time trying to close loopholes on Americans overseas paying their taxes than taking care of people at home?
