With summer slowdown, Lion activities heat up
Ready or not, the heat is here! Time to push the sweaters to the back of the closet and bring out Texas’ summer clothes. Sandals, tank tops and shorts, with your bathing suit within hand’s reach to take a dip and cool down.
With summer, schedules seem to slow down; kids don’t wake up at the crack of dawn to catch the bus, parents can finally relax after work instead of taxiing from function to function. … Oh, wait, schedules slow down for some, but Lions are packing the calendar full. Get your pen out and take note of these very special events we have coming up.
Saturday was our new member service project at the Montgomery County Food Bank. New members chose a workday at the Food Bank for their project, organizing, arranging and just increasing the helping hands. Don’t feel left out if you couldn’t make it, though, new members are organizing a food drive to help stock the Montgomery County Food Bank – cans or cash will be accepted during club meetings and at the Lions Club office to be delivered to the Food Bank June 15. New members don’t stay “green” for long; they jump in, get their hands wet and serve as quickly as possible.
Community Partner Day is Wednesday during our club luncheon. For all of you Community Partners, we cannot express enough our appreciation to each and every one of you so this day is for you, to see firsthand the service and community involvement that Conroe Noon Lions Club takes part in every day. Without your generous contribution, we could not be the shining star we are. I hope to see each Community Partner there Wednesday so as a club, we can say thank you.
The year has flown by. Lion Morris’ reign as president is coming to a close June 10 as we celebrate with the Installation Banquet at the Fire and Ice Dancehall on FM 2854. President Morris has requested we “rope ’em in” to end the year, with the music of Texas Swing Unlimited as we feel “Home on the Range.”
Lions, I have seen firsthand all of the hard work you have put in throughout the year and, believe me, it does not go unnoticed. Your day is June 15 as we present Club Awards during lunch. It’s about time I add to my “Lions Wall” at work.
School’s over, kids are home for the summer, teachers and nurses get some time to breathe, but that doesn’t mean Conroe Noon Lions Club stops vision screenings. There will be a free vision screening at the new C.K. Ray Recreation Center next to Candy Cane Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25.
