Food for the float: Great dinners can be made along riverbanks
JOPLIN, Mo. — When it comes to float trip food, it’s important to get one thing straight from the beginning: The best meal on a float trip is a hot dog fixed over a fire on a sandbar.
That’s it. Nothing comes close. There is just something about pulling onto a sandbar after three or four hours on the water, starting a fire and roasting a few dogs. Sure, having some mustard for your dog is good, and maybe some diced onions and some chips but the star of the lunch, and of the trip, is that slightly black on the outside and warm on the inside hot dog. For most dinners, we try to do as much of the cooking on outdoor grills that we pack and bring with us. What little cooking done inside is reserved for items that need to cook a long time under controlled heat, or items such as salad that are better off served slightly chilled. Because we prefer to cook outdoors on grills, typical main course items tend to be grill-friendly foods such as steaks, thick-cut pork chops or chicken. On a recent float trip on the North Fork of the White River, south of Mountain Grove, one such dinner began with a marinated shrimp appetizer prepared and grilled by my Uncle Jim Clements. To be honest, the shrimp appetizer was a first for our float trips. In the past, more typical appetizers have consisted of Polish kielbasa, split, placed on a grill and basted with barbecue sauce. Or perhaps chicken wings, on the grill, basted with a hot red sauce. But Jim had some leftover frozen shrimp direct from South Padre Island, Texas, and a new recipe from “Taste of Home.” So we went with the shrimp. Roll out two large sheets of aluminum foil. Add equal amounts of potatoes, green pepper, jalape–o peppers, onions and mushrooms onto each sheet of foil. Add four pats of butter to each vegetable mixture and season to taste and wrap in foil then rewrap each packet into another sheet of foil. Cook in oven for an hour or until potatoes are done. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has unveiled nine graphic health warnings to be carried on cigarette packs — from nicotine-stained teeth to images of a smoker wearing an oxygen mask. The measure is believed to help prevent children from smoking, encourage adults who do to quit, and ensure every American understands the dangers of smoking. Do you think this is a good approach?

Did you know that strength training exercises must be properly selected based upon your overall needs? Actually, all people can benefit from some form of exercise that adds to overall strength. Our world today requires us to be basically sedentary depending on the particular job. Lack of mobility, such as sitting down for long periods of time, can lead to wellness issues in the future. These types of exercises will obviously be of great benefit to people who engage in sports. Staying in shape is a combination of doing workouts to stay fit and also build upper and lower body strength. Each paragraph below will present different ways of working out using strength training exercises that work.
Individuals in the United States can come across preoccupied with having a level stomach and the abs called "six pack abs." Surely it is obvious that all people can be more attractive when looking like that. Yet as someone is active in sports, holding on to a powerful and healthful back is only possible when keeping a stronger torso is of the utmost priority. Also, stomach strength and side obliques will automatically aid you in performance. Numerous individuals affirm the ab crunches, however we will talk about other things. With isometric hangs you can intensely strengthen your midsection. Basically you just dangle from a rod, then keep your legs in the position where your knees are at 90 degrees and then keep them there. Try it and see if you can hold it for a count of ten. Your lat muscles, which are on either side of your back, can be built giving anyone that V-shaped appearance which most people desire. Lat exercises with free weights can be easily done with the simple lat pull. Be sure to look at proper positioning for this exercise before attempting it as it can lead to damage and muscle pulls. If you have a gym membership, take a look at what other people are doing at the gym and see how they are doing this particular exercise. Exercise machines that have this particular choice will have a bar attached to a pulley system with adjustable weights. When you pull down, you raise the weights accordingly and exercise the muscle group.
When looking at exercise with strength training there are two schools of thought. Free weights or weight training devices can be used as some people prefer them. Different individuals favor their body weight to use instead of free weights. Results are obtainable with either avenue for the sports player. There are some professional athletes who rely solely on natural body weight types of exercises. Because he did not utilize weights, Hershel Walker made the headlines when he arrived on the professional football field many years ago.
