PC, PCB auctioning off surplus stuff

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Some unusual items will be on the auction block Saturday when Panama City and Panama City Beach sell surplus items, but there also is expected to be deals to be had.

Police departments from both cities are preparing items for sale in a joint auction to be held at the Panama City Police Department, 17110 Firenzo St. The auction begins at 9 a.m., with a preview period noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday. Preregistration is required and can be completed during both preview periods.

The joint auction means a bigger selection of items. Panama City Beach typically holds an auction every year and it’s been about five years since Panama City held an auction. There are surplus supplies from both cities, including office supplies, vehicles and electronics.

There are also items seized from criminals, items used as evidence in criminal cases never claimed by their rightful owners and abandoned property. Among them is a golden Best Grillz brand case for golden teeth. Don’t have golden teeth? Well, some of those are available, too. There’s also a My Little Pony doll, a skateboard and Air Jordans.

“Always our goal is to return (an item) to its rightful owner, but it doesn’t always happen,” said Sgt. Jeff Becker of the Panama City Police Department. Some people don’t file police reports for stolen items, he said, and sometimes the owner cannot be found.

While some items, like the teeth, might have limited appeal, Panama City Beach Police Chief Robert Harding said he expects about 400 to 500 people to turn out for the auction Saturday.

Among the big draws likely will be the 63 vehicles for sale, ranging from Crown Victorias once used to patrol the streets, to dump trucks, an asphalt roller and a bucket truck, a two-door Honda and a Toyota with fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. There are also trucks, vans and SUVs.

Not all the vehicles are in working order, but during the preview periods the public can take a look at all the vehicles, check under the hoods and crank the engines. They can’t test-drive them, though.

The public also will be able to inspect other items. Electrical outlets will allow potential bidders to make sure electronics work.

Other items available include laptop computers previously used in police vehicles, computer screens, televisions, a PSP, Nintendo DS, and DVDs. There are also lawnmowers and bicycles for children and adults. A list of items is available online at www.weaci.com.

Clicking on the links in the homepage brought me to the blogs. The blogs was running on like free cms and obviously had better space management. Like the homepage, the blogs didn’t have a proper and consistent header banner as well. After looking at the homepage and the blog, I was wondering why the author didn’t run the whole website in free cms but rather chose to have a blog running separately within the site. The picture gallery was again linked to a page with a different look and feel. Having separate apps running different parts of the site might be quick and easy to set up but poses usability issues. The domain name is good. The author should consider using a central cms (possibly free cms) for the whole site and put in more effort to build up credible content with quality images. There are a lot of people interested in used bucket trucks for sale and I am sure that with enough effort, the site used bucket trucks for sale can gain more fans.
