Police Dept. Warns Residents: Lock Your Car Doors

The Bradenton Police Department is reminding citizens to lock their vehicles while left unattended.

"Increasingly, thieves are entering unlocked vehicles and stealing whatever can be removed," the department said Monday in a news release. "This crime can occur at all hours of the day and night. With the help of citizens locking car doors we can make our community safer and reduce crime."

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has issued several alerts within the past month following break-ins of locked and unlocked vehicles in Bradenton and around the county. Incidents include:

On May 21, many unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the Wildwood Springs area around Lakeside Drive in Bradenton. Small electronic devices, loose change, personal items left out in plain view were taken. On May 22, wallets, fishing poles and other personal items were taken from several unlocked vehicles at Country Meadows, located off of Rye Road in eastern Manatee County. On June 4, several unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the Gates of Bradenton apartment complex in the 4500 block of 26th Street West. On June 6, several unlocked vehicles were burglarized in Willowbrook Condos & Colonial Village at Town Park Apartments in Lakewood Ranch. Clothes, purses, money, a firearm and some other personal items were taken.

Anyone that observes suspicious persons loitering in parking lots or streets is asked to call and report the activity to the Bradenton Police Department at 941-932-9300. Anyone with information about the listed robberies can call Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS (8477).
