DLI Launches Field Service-Ready Vehicle Cradle for Rugged Tablet
In a press release, DLI explained that the new product is intended to help extend the rugged tablet's use in the areas of field service, field sales, and fleet management.
The field service-ready DLI 8800 VMC shares features with other DLI vehicle mount cradles. These include a configurable port replicator, connection to multiple external antennas, and a power regulating converter.
The DLI 8800 VMC also incorporates DLI's soon-to-be released RoadConnect telematics support feature.
The DLI 8800 VMC comes with a ruggedized vehicle-mount form factor, which is slimmer than DLI 8800 Desk Mount Cradle, but includes many of the same features to be found in the later.
So far as technical specifications are concerned, DLI said that at the heart of the DLI 8800 VMC is a fully configurable port replicator integrating one RS 232 and three USB ports (including two IP67-rated sealed locking connectors), a J1708/J1939 telematics interface, and two selectable RF pass-through connectors for use with cellular, Wifi, or GPS external antennas. Using the DLI 8800 VMC mobile workers can easily connect a DLI 8800 Rugged Tablet to a variety of external peripherals including a rugged keyboard, mobile printer, tethered bar code scanners and more.
DLI 8800 VMC has 10~60VDC Power Regulating Converter integrated into it. This helps it provide a stable, regulated power source as well as voltage spike protection for the 8800 Rugged Tablet when connected to a variety of consumer, commercial and industrial vehicles including lift trucks and delivery vans.
DLI 8800 VMC and other DLI vehicle mounting cradles exclusively pack the new fully integrated telematics feature – RoadConnect. This J1708/J1939 interface provides DLI Rugged Tablets with a direct link to a vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). This unique telematics feature allows DLI tablets to "pull" a wide range of data relating to mileage, speed, braking pattern, hours of operation as well as idle time.
These integrated telematics feature can turn the DLI 8800 VMC into a powerful fleet management and maintenance tool that extends the functionality and value of the DLI 8800 Rugged Tablet, its maker claimed in a release.
DLI 8800 VMC is designed, manufactured and serviced in the USA at DLI's corporate facility located in LaPorte, Indiana. The product will be available for delivery to both end users and qualified resellers beginning in July with prices starting at $243.00, sources at DLI revealed.
