For Eminem fans who prefer the "old, crazier Em from back in the day" -- as described to us by Royce da 5'9"   -- "Hell: The Sequel" makes good on a promise made 12 years ago, when the Detroit pals teamed up for "Bad Meets Evil," a track on Eminem's debut album "The Slim Shady LP," and rhymed, "See you in hell for the sequel." Fast forward: the duo is back to mischief and Royce, always a nimble rapper, is finally getting his due. Best of all, Eminem's lyrical targets are current again. Sorry, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj -- the joke's on you now. -Monica Herrera Ledisi's next chapter, "Pieces of Me," offers an even deeper and more satisfying read on the Grammy Award nominee's formidable skill set. Ledisi's signature R&B, jazz-scatting style courses throughout the project. She seamlessly shifts into girl group mode on "BGTY" then switches to sassy on "Shut Up" before evoking prowess and passion on the gut-wrenching "Hate Me." -Gail Mitchell Adam Young, the sole member of Owl City, found a hit in 2009 with "Fireflies," which took a shocking trip to No. 1 Hot 100 chart. After dabbling in his Sky Sailing, Young is back with his most popular moniker on "All Things Bright and Beautiful," which he produced and will be released on Universal Republic Records. The songs are immediately recognizable as Young's wistful synthpop, but he throws a curveball 20 seconds into his first single, "Alligator Sky," with rapper Shawn Chrystopher featured for a hip-hop crossover. Other versions of the song feature B.o.B. and Big Boi from OutKast. -Sarah Maloy After delivering three mixtapes and winning the co-sign from Kanye West, Big Sean is ready to taste the sweetness of success with his debut album, "Finally Famous." Sean gathers talents from heavy hitters (Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross, The-Dream, Chris Brown) for club anthems ("Dance (A$$)," "Marvin & Chardonnay") and reminiscent mid-tempos ("Memories (Part II)" featuring John Legend, "So Much More"). -Erika Ramirez Some may struggle with the correct pronunciation of the name of Justin Vernon's band, but that didn't stop an astonishing amount of new fans from flocking to Bon Iver's 2008 debut, "For Emma, Forever Ago." Vernon escapes the dreaded sophomore slump with June 21's self-titled effort, which remains as heartbreaking and staggeringly genuine as his much-lauded first album. In fact, the only thing that's changed this time around is Vernon's elevated profile.

There is No R&B. There is Only Frank Ocean.

I've got plenty of love for Neo Soul — D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, etc. got me through the post-Jodeci-up-until-now phase of my R&B life. But, I have to admit that there's just not enough of that to go around. Enter: Frank Ocean of the Odd

Jill Scott and Jennifer Hudson - J. Mensah's Billboard Files

Demonstrates a warm hybrid of R&B, soul and jazz, of course with an obligatory '70s influenced touch, showcased none more so than on the laid back, grooving rhythms of "So In Love" featuring fellow American R&B singer Anthony Hamilton. The beat boxing beats of "All Cried Out Redux" work real nice against Scott's soulful vocal, which is further complimented when the jaunty piano keys kick in. Nothing on here jumps right at you, much like her acclaimed single "Hate On Me" from her last album, perhaps the lovably upbeat lead single "Shame" comes close. At times, the album does highlight the fine line between sensual and free-flowing and just plain bland, like with the colourless "Quick" and plodding "When I Wake Up." However, the album more than makes up for its duds and fillers, delivering a handful of highlights. Ultimately an warm and charming set of enticing soul music. Best: So In Love, Shame, Hear My Call, Making You Wait (3/5) Maybe I just preferred the more pop influenced edge of her eponymous debut, but I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed with American R&B singer Jennifer Hudson's second album. It sure does have its belters, particularly the heavy piano chords and heavy beats assisted production on opening track "No One Gonna Love You," the dramatic balladry of lead single "Where You At" and the more accessible pop of "Gone." However the rest of the material feels rather weak. The ballads ("I Remember Me," "Still Here" and "Believe") are decent but not as great as the ones on the last album, although I do appreciate the emotion, sensitivity and back story to "Believe." And then there is the more faux indulgence in upbeat '70s soul ("Everybody Needs Love") which doesn't seem that authentic. Not a completely dud, but not one I'd wholeheartedly recommend either.
