Sam: Who are the Bulls targeting in the draft?

Whether they bring them in for private workouts or observe them in settings such as last month's NBA pre-draft combine in Chicago -- or, more recently, the annual Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy -- the Bulls have been hard at work evaluating prospects for the upcoming June 23 NBA Draft.

Armed with two late first-round picks and a second-round selection, the organization could opt to go in a number of different directions. Assuming, however, they choose to keep their picks and add a rookie or two (or three) to the squad, a primer on some of the more notable players they've brought in to the Berto Center is appropriate.

While the front office is surely considering other players, in this writer's view, a dozen of the players the Bulls have worked out -- at least of the names a person familiar with the proceedings passed on to CSNChicago.com -- are somewhat realistic possibilities and therefore, a brief breakdown of their respective skill sets and an educated guess at how they'd fit in is warranted.

One thing to keep in mind: Chicago's position in the draft -- picks No. 28, 30 and 43 overall -- can indeed yield gems (such as with the 26th pick two years ago), but even franchises with the most diligent scouting departments would admit that as it gets later in a draft, it becomes more about luck as teams' higher-ranked prospects come off the board, often resulting in a battle of attrition. With that said, this year's crop of draft prospects, while panned as underwhelming in star power, is widely considered to be a deep group with good value picks beyond the top names.
had a solid debut campaign as the backup to the league MVP, but with both of the Bulls point guards being talented scorers, adding Garrett's size to the roster is an interesting thought. If he can defend shooting guards, the idea of pairing him with either Rose or Watson, freeing them up to play off the ball, could give the team another dimension on offense.

Jenkins is a power guard with a pro-ready frame and the ability to draw and finish through contact, use dribble penetration to create scoring opportunities and drain outside jumpers with equal aplomb. While not a true point guard, he's capable of playing either backcourt spot -- a bit undersized for shooting guard, he makes up for it with his strength and toughness -- as well as contributing on the glass.

Handle with responsibility. When it's time to extricate yourself from the smooth Recaro bucket seat, care must be taken to ensure the long doors don't swing too wide and make some unintentional contact. But it's all worth it.

Bulls fit: Even though he's not quite a pure shooter and doesn't have prototypical shooting guard dimensions, Jenkins' scoring expertise would surely benefit the Bulls. Maybe he doesn't develop into a star, but observers believe he'll make an immediate
