Summer Cereal Drive - Week 1 Chronicles of the "The I-30 Breakfast Tour"
The first day of the Cereal Drive is always a little slower than the rest. However, no complaints in Bryant or Benton for that matter, as Saline county got us off to a good start with over 500 boxes for the morning. I think it's very important to mention that Benton and Bryant public Schools ALWAYS come up big during the School Eidition with over 5,000 boxes provided between the two districts this year! Thank you to the fine folks at Wal-Mart for donating several cases of cereal as well as the individuals, children and city leaders who came out to help. Alyse Eady and Heather Brown joined us for the kick-off which made for a very fun and entertaining first day of the community drive! Beneficiary - Cornerstone Nazarene Church.Day 2 - Our first ever Summer Cereal Drive visit to Malvern and boy did they ever represent! The morning started with Brookshire's and the community providing an instant jolt of over 1,500 boxes! By the time the morning ended, Malvern and surrounding areas had totalled a whopping 5,037 boxes setting a benchmark for all other communities! In a town on about 9,000, I can easily say this is the most successful turnout to a community cereal drive we've ever had! Great job Malvern! We'll see you next year! Thanks to Brookshire's and all of the other community businesses, churches and individuals who turned out from Glen Rose to Rockport and even Sheridan (Grant County) to help put a dent in the hunger crises in Hot Spring County. Our final leg on the I-30 Breakfast Tour was Arkadelphia at Brookshire's. Another 1st ever Summer Cereal Drive visit. The pressure was on! Could Arkadelphia residents, businesses and county officials pull together and top what Malvern did just a day before? Both communities are very similar in population. Well, they gave it their all and got really close. In all, 4,042 boxes were donated to the effort and the city represented very well , with city and county officials going head-to-head, HSU and Ouachita represented, Brookshire's donating a lot of cereal, Southern Banc Corp with over 200 boxes, churches getting involved and of course a HUGE community out pouring! An overall top 15 finish! Yes, Arkadelphia we will return next year! Congratulations on a big, big morning!
